This Is Where I Belong....wouldn't that be a great show opener?

Depends on where he playes. last year I saw Ray play a festival that, apart from him, only had local chart topping very lame and commercial rubbish pop groups on the bill, and Ray was stuffed somewhere between two of those acts (a girl who does this pointer sister type soulpop whatever music). While she was singing at the right-side of the (double) stage, Ray was on the left-side of the stage preparing for his own show, but most of the time he was doing those goofy dances, singalong-mimicry with her music while making hilariously funny faces. biggrin.gif He really was in a good mood.

Most people had not come to see him play, so when he started, only 4-5 rows of the crowd had not left to eat or do whatever it is those people do. So at that moment he could not have played a better opening song than I'm Not Like Everybody Else.

But I agree that in a smaller venue with only his own fans 'this is where i belong' would be a great opener...

...and clearly that was NOT where he belonged at the moment!

Great story El-Good!

Rosie Won't you please come home
at one of his early Storyteller Shows, maybe Toads Place in New Haven Ct. in 97, when he was telling a story and mentioned his sister Rosie I said in a very low voice " Rose won't you please come home " and because I was right in the front he heard me and said OK I'll do it, and he did an unplanned impromptu version of it right on the spot and then went back and resumed his story from where he left off at. This is what I have in mind for the upcoming NY shows and what I mean by if the audience plays its card right we might get one of those really off the beaten path kind of Ray shows. The Toads Place show in Ct...is still considered by many the best of all his solo StoryTeller and 20th Century Man shows because so much of it was adl-libbed and spontaneous because of the extremely enthusiastic crowd. It was probably the closest to that of a Kinks show of all the Ray solo shows.

Thank you for the Rays, those endless Rays, those sacred Rays you gave me.

But I agree he's endless and sacred.

Now playing inside my tiny plastic head: Some Mother's Son, from Arthur.

Hey Kinks buffs, please... somewhere in my acetates drawer is a song called "I believed you", by the Ravens, is it an early/pre Kinks recording? Thanks.

"I Believed You" is an acetate only demo that was recorded at R.G. Jones Studio in January or February, 1964.

I could be wrong. Anybody?

Welcome to the Board, Youri.

For me it's On The Outside.

And yes, you're right about I Believed You (first Ravens-Kinks song ever recorded), and curiously written by Dave!
