I saw the Kinks at the Beacon Theatre N.Y.C on new years eve 1980 and found it very perplexing that Ray never said anything about John Lennon's death during the show. I thought that was rather odd considering how everyone felt at the time. Happy New Year to all ! It's going to be a great year for Davies fans.

In reply to Cool Dad......I'm sure that John Lennon was mentioned at that gig......(unless I'm thinking of another time), didn't Ray introduce ADAAOTN with something like...."you can't kill the music"?

FrankLima- 01-01-2006
Wasn't that New years eve show at Roseland ? Or was I off my drugs that night, or maybe on them? Because I was there too and I swear Ray made some mention or remark pertaining to John??? and you can't kill the music comments sounds familiar maybe as he launched in to You Can't Stop the Music??? Now that's the song in my head right now along with " Here Come the People in Gray "....

My father threw out all my ticket stubs, so I'm not 100% sure were it was held. I listened intently all night. Nada. Then again I am a dull and simple lad and maybe I missed something.

now it's Dave songs like
Wildman
and Trust your Heart....
buzzing around every molecule in my brain.

I can feel the adrenelin kicking in just at the thought of the sound of that amazing guitar sound.

I'm a Wildman don't you know it ?

Yeah, my mom threw out all my Barbies too. Parents -- what can you do with them? I'm sure we won't make the same mistakes with our kids. huh.gif

And yes, Frank, you are a wild man and we love you for it.

The song in my head today is Things Are Gonna Change, my mantra for 2006.

Now it's Top of the Pops...just thinking about the live version off " Everybody's in Show-Biz " ...

The only thing missing from that version is Ray's extended middle vocal rant where he actually sings lines to Dave's guitar lines doing Cannibal and the Head Hunters " land of 1000 dances "...it was a little later whe Ray started with " I'm so high, ten feet high, I'm on a cloud and I feel all right "...the image of him with his checkered coat or white blazer hair flopping over his eyes and face, his white fender telecaster just dangling at his his hips with this absolute glazed look over his eyes while the band just gyerated a perfect canabalistic primal rock beat behind him was " Priceless " and another kinks moment never to be forgotten.

The infamous August 23rd 1972 Kinks show at the Schaeffer Music Festival in Central Park, NYC was the pinnacle for what I described above and to me not only was this my all time favorite kinks show but my all time favorite rock show ever and that still stands to this day. ( and you can only imagine how many shows and different bands and artist I have seen...actually you can't? )

Now it's Dave's Nothing More to Lose.

FrankLima- 01-19-2006
Hey InaKinK we must have the same album on in our head because " All of my friends were there " is playing in mine along with People take pictures of each other but it's the live version back in the 70's because I can hear and see Ray singing " If I were a Rich Man " smack in the middle of PTPOEO, just like he use to!

FranK
and I heard a Johnny Thunders song on Sirius Radio this morning called
" I'm Alive " and the Sex Pistols doing " I'm not your stepping stone " the Monkee's B side.

Imaginary Man- 01-20-2006
Yes, we must, and recently I've also been thinking of the wonderful Animal Farm
