I'm gonna see Ray again tomorrow thanks to Ellie .

| The one song that always plays is Spotty Grotty Anna and Demolition. Can anyone tell me if Spotty Grotty Anna was born out of a jam session, and who wrote it? |
On my Deluxe-edition of VGPS, it says it was written by Ray and Dave. It also says "this nifty studio jam was named 'in honour' of one of the London pop scene's most notorious groupies".

I've been listening a lot to the Preservation albums recently and I've really discovered them. I knew all the songs, but I hadn't realised how good they are and I hadn't cared much about the lyrics. Now I really thing they are VERY GOOD albums. So one song I've had all day in mind is the bonus track "Preservation".
I've also been thinking a lot on "A long way from home", for me one of the best and more-underrated songs ever.
"...yes you're still, a long way from home." |
Its funny, for years "A long way from home" was kind of a lesser song for me. In comparison to the rest of the LOLA material, I found it a bit wimpy. Its only been fairly recently that I've discovered it and found out what I've been missing. Maybe now that I'm in my late forties I'm starting to mature. Its a beautiful song, and the chorus, when Dave joins in, gives me goose pumps.
Its also funny how the Preservations take some time to grow into some people. They are very unconventional, and singular; the concept, the rock opera thing,..In this case, its not my case; there are so many great songs in there, some very straightforward R&R mixed with all those oddities, that I loved it straight from the start.

back where we started lets go round againnnnnnnnnnnn do it again do it again do it again
Most of the time it's the last Kinks song I listened to which was last night in the car and it was 'Face In The Crowd'. It's the last song I put on this cassette tape, one of my personal Kinks favorite tapes (FITC's duration - fairly short - made it fit perfectly without any blank space at the end of the tape). It finished just as I was reaching my house.
"Do you think I stand out,
Or am I just a face in the crowd?"
And then silence, when I turned my ignition off.
Seems like a lot of us are into Preservation at the moment... My favourite song over the last months has been 'there's a change in the weather' (and i think preservation act 1 is the best kinks album i've heard thus far).
But after having read some of the reviews, i've got i'm not like everybody else in my head (once again)...
Today I feel like RATS!
was lost just wandering round downtown
Many people pushing me around
Hate spreads just like infection
Those rats jumping on and off my back
Fat black rats holding me down
I see rats in every direction
Ooh, iles, that does not sound happy.

Hope your mood is better by now. Yesterday I was so crabby, mad at everybody, and then I happened to listen to "Look a Little on the Sunnyside" and it did the trick -- made me human again -- I do love Ray.
i've had the tourist and yours truly confused n10 in my head loads after buying the ep

Bad stuff happening at the office...may be un-employed soon.
Not sure, eveything is BLAGH!
Well if it happens..
I've got my Pride
I've got no Money
but who needs a job when it's Sunny..oh ohh!
Sharon, I'm sorry you're going through this. Many of us (me included) have traveled through what you describe. It ends up getting resolved one way or another. I stayed for about six months, then ended up leaving out of exasperation. Walking was a good decision. I found work I liked better. Hang in there.
Remember, everything is temporary. So...
Don't forget to dance.
No, no, no
Don't forget to smile
Don't forget to dance
Forget it for a while

Yeah, the night before i'd been to a

but thought it'd kill me to get to Oxford. Plus I couldn't get the Monday off work so it would've been a mad rush. Oh well, got more time to spend up in Liverpool so that was good and all that!
The Kinks song currently running in my head - well technically not a Kinks song - is This Strange Effect.

How soppy!

Lying awake, in a cold cold sweat Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt? It gets worse - the older that you get...
My signature tune. |
I LOVE that tune!! One of my favourites from the Kinks 80's catalogue..
The songs that reflects me the most is probably "I'm not like everybody else" and "A rock roll fantasy". These two tunes are just brilliant, both in lyrics and melody!! The part in "A.R.A.R.F." when Ray sings "Dan is fan and he lives for our music..." just blew me away! It's totally perfect!! My biggest dream is to hear a reunioned Kinks perform that tune with me sitting (unconscious) at the first row!!
