Dave K- 07-13-2008
Thanks Johanna,
I will report the problem to forumer and see waht can be done.

B. L. Zebub (Mrs.)- 07-15-2008
Major delays at approx. 11:30 pm Pacific time. Unable to connect with messages that site may be down or busy.

Jenny- 07-15-2008
Yes, slow for me too. 10am BST.

I'm on a number of other forums and they are whizzing along, so suspect it's this server.

Dave K- 07-15-2008
Thanks Jenny,
I've sent Forumer another note and hopefully they will attend to the problem. It's a little harder to diagnose intermittent problems, but this has been going on for a little while.

Dave K- 07-15-2008
I got the following message from Forumer in response to my message to the about performance problems with the Forum:

"Hi Dave,

Thank you very much for your detail report. Actually we need to monitor this server to see the problem. Just right now it's working fast ... I'll try to monitor and see if I can make any improvement."

Not too much to report, but hopefully they can get to the bottom of the problem.

For folks who are new, Forumer is the company that hosts this forum and thousands of other forums. They have a server farm of over 30 servers. We are server number 3. Usually when we have problems, all of the other forums on server 3 will also experience the same problem. We experienced significant problems with the server about 8 months ago and they replaced the server. We then had several good months without too many problems and then some bumps over the last 2-3 months. It has got worse over the past 2-3 weeks. So hopefully, they can do whatever maintenance is necessary.

This may sound obvious to some of you, but if you clear the cache in your browser periodically, web performance and forum performance will really speed up.

Nothing to do with delays but my Norton Antivirus software doesn't seem to like this Forum. I'd be interested to know if anyone else using Norton is getting this message? I'll see if I can take it up with Norton but I shan't hold my breath

I use Norton (which slows down my system when its running) but no, never had that message 'afore......

I am also using Norton Internet Security 2008, which I'll add is bang up-to-date.

It is not giving me this error. In fact, my Norton toolbar indicates the site is perfectly secure.

Mine is up to date too Seanie - have you run a "liveupdate" in the last couple of days unsure.gif

Well, arguably we are a suspicious web site. Safe for your computer, but not necessarily your mind biggrin.gif

I'm just babbling, please pay no attention.

Firefox has a built in security system that detects suspicious web sites. It doesn't often have false alarms, but it does flag some real odd ones.

Norton is telling me its a potential phishing site - but I shan't carp on about it biggrin.gif
